Barnet Neighbourhood Watch

How Does Neighbourhood Watch Work?

By being a good neighbour, you can help to make your community more secure. You can do this is many ways, including:
• Looking out for your neighbours by keeping an eye on those who are elderly or vulnerable, watching out for your neighbours’ homes while they are away and reporting any suspicious activity.
• Receiving regular updates from your local policing team about what is happening locally and how you can help - e.g. to look out for stolen property, find missing people, or identify suspects from CCTV images.
• Receiving and sharing crime prevention advice to help keep you and your neighbours safe and your homes and your property secure.
• Forming or joining a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme with your neighbours to work together to keep your street safe.

How Can I Join?

There are several ways to join. You can:
• Visit Online Watch Link (OWL). OWL is a secure award winning website and communication system. Built especially to support Neighbourhood Watch, it enables you to receive messages and alerts, crime prevention advice and other community messages from your local team via email, or by telephone if you prefer.
• Sign up with your local policing team
• Sign up with your street’s Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator if a scheme already exists
• Contact your Watch Community Coordinator by emailing BarnetNHW@communitybarnet.org.uk

How Can I Help?

• Neighbourhood Watch Members can do as much or as little as they like. In addition to being a member, you can volunteer for a local role.
• Street Coordinators look after a number of homes by welcoming new neighbours, keeping OWL contact details up to date, acting as a point of contact and passing on messages and information to neighbours who do not have access to email.
• For people who would like to become more involved, there are a number of Area, Ward and District roles. For more information, please contact your Community Coordinator.
